Motorcycle Repair: yamaha 125, yamaha 125 dirt bike, valve position

Question
I have a yamaha 125 dirt bike (2002) I was riding the bike a few days ago, just starting out, ran for about 5 min, and it stopped running(sounded like it was out of gas)but tank was just filled prior to starting the ride. Tried to re-start it with no luck. I've cleaned filters, and checked for spark at the plug. All is good.  What should i do next?

Answer
Hi Will,

Did the spark plug show any evidence of fouling- wet or dry? It may arc when wet fouled and grounded to the engine during inspection, but short-out when in the cylinder head.

Otherwise, I suspect a fuel related problem.

Check petcock valve position. ON/OFF/PRI/RES (whichever applies).

Check vacuum and fuel supply hoses for evidence of collapsing or pinching. Either condition may cause starting and performance problems.

Check engine on/off and tether kill switches for proper operation.

If the MC was exposed to rain, washing, or other water sources check electrical connectors for evidence of water shorting.

Check chassis ground and electrical connectors for loose or corroded connections. Connectors should be dry, clean, and tightly connected. Apply dielectric grease to prevent corrosion and water shorting.

Respectfully,
