Motorcycle Repair: 92 forks on 85 bike GSXR750, suzuki rf 600, motorcycle repair

Question
Hello, I read on another part of this site, ( http://experts.about.com/q/Motorcycle-Repair-837/Suzuki-RF-600-rear.htm ) that you can easily fit the forks from a 92 model GSXR750 onto a 86 model. (My bike is 85 but I think it still must be the same model year - the very first year). I have looked up some pics on the web, and the 92 GSXR appears to have upside-down forks. Would this not mean that they were very much wider at the top clamps and therefore wouldn't fit on? I have measured the diameter of my current forks which appear to be 42mm. If they really do fit on then I'll be well happy and rush out and buy some.
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Andy,

The triple-tree and forks must be changed as a set. The newer inverted forks will not fit your OEM (stock) triple-tree.

I return tech information files by email. There was no email address with your question as requested and explained in my instructions.

If you want my files on parts that are inter-changable on the Gixxer's/Kat's/RF's/Bandit's, reply with an email addy.

Respectfully,
