Motorcycle Repair: starting my 1983 Honda Magna, 1983 honda magna, pop sound

I'm not sure what your looking for as far as being specific but when i pull in the clutch and shift into first theres not much to describe it pops in quite easily with the slightest of pop sound I've heard much worse on my fiend's 2002's and 1998's bikes.  it doesn't jump or buck ,it rolls backwards easily.  I guess I'm saying the clutch seems to be working fine.  I hope this is the info your looking for thanks for your help.  Let me know

I can only start the bike when its in neutral.  I'm thinking this is because there
may be a clutch sensor that isn't working and not allowing me to start in other
gears does this sound right.  And if not how can i fix it

Um, I strongly doubt it's a clutch sensor.  I would say that your clutch is bad.  What happens when u shift from neutral to first with the clutch pulled?  Please be as specific as possible.  Good luck and let me know.

Have u tried to start it in this manner with the kick stand up or down?  If both then I'm gonna have to say that there's some kinda neutral safty switch and it has gone bad.  I'm sorry I can't b of more help but without the bike present this is very difficult 2 diagnose.
