Motorcycle Repair: honda benly ca95 1965, honda benly, uk valve


Question
do i need a battery to start the motorcycle because i have a kickstart and i have a clutch
if i can start it without a battery, how?

Honda Benly motorcycles from 1959 to 1965 all have battery operated ignition systems that are 6 volt. Go to Ebay and find a battery for yours, if not available locally. DO NOT try to fire it up without a battery or on a 12v battery or with a bad rectifier, as it will blow out the light bulbs and the headlight bulb is expensive and hard to find now.

Shop manuals and parts books are often available on Ebay or check with the BENLY PAGE site in the UK.

Valve clearances are .004", points set at .014", with the timing of the points set to open at the F mark alignment. Clean the entire fuel system from gas cap to float bowl and set the float level at 19.5mm. Compression specs are 130 psi.
