Motorcycle Repair: exhaust, drag pipes, deeper sound

Have 06 FI Softtail.Replaced stock shorties with new HD Catalyst slip ons to get better sound. Still want deeper sound. Can I remove the inserts held in by two screws? If so, will bike have to be re-calibrated due to FI?

What you are doing by removing the inserts is making drag pipes. Drag pipes will make your bike run leaner so you need to recalibrate the EMC.
One thing to remember, drag pipes will actually make you lose power in midrange.
