Motorcycle Repair: 02 250 ninja wont start, push start, jamed

Question
Hi,

I've got a quick question about a 2002 EX250 Ninja.  The bike simply stopped turning over.  The battery is strong, and it feels like the starter is attempting to turn over the engine.  When I try to start the bike, and push the starter button, I get this loud clicking noise coming from right below me.  I've never heard this sound previously.  The bike won't even turn over.

Secondly, I tried to start the bike with a push start.  However, once I had the bike into first, it locked up and wouldn't budge, even with the clutch engaged.  It will roll freely in neutral, but as soon as I put it in first, it locks up, and won't move at all.  So, I can't even push start it.  I have an inkling that it's a clutch problem.  There is some evidence that the previous owner rode it hard (nearly bald rear tire).  Also, for about two weeks leading up to this problem, the bike would shift quite hard, and jerk switching up through the lower gears.  Don't know if this info would provide any additional insight or not.

Thank you very much for your time.

Sincerely,

Thaddeus

Answer
sounds like a broken starte drive. i wouldnt try push starting it again you could damage something in the engine take the starter off an dtry push it real easy if it turns ok then look at the starter gera . if it doesnt inspect for broken gear piecees jamed in the engine, remove them then try push staring again.

hope this helps you. good luck and keep riding
