Motorcycle Repair: 88B throw out bearing, clutch lever, clutch

Question
Hi Mike, I've got a 2003 flstci with 16,500 well maintained miles on it.  I'm an older rider with many years experience (I don't beat on my ride). My clutch lever seemed to jam while in a parking lot in first gear only allowing me to pull it in about half way, enough to disengage the clutch but no more. I was able to drive it to my local dealer and upon inspection they said my throw out bearing broke in half. Is this common and if so should there be a recall?  Thanks...

Answer
A throw out bearing is just what it appears. A bearing that can fail under normal wear. Usually the only time they fail is when you let the trans get low on oil and the bearing does not get lubed, but they can fail at anytime.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
