Motorcycle Repair: 97 suzuki chain, wheel alignment, alignment marks

Question
I recently bought a repair manual so I could start wrenching on my new baby myself. I need to adjust the chain, but am worried about rear wheel staying in alignment. The manual says to loosen the bolt going through the rear wheel, if needed- and then proceeds to not tell me if its needed or not. Can you let me know? And are those calibration marks really a good indicator on wheel alignment?

Answer
Hi Ryan,

The axle nut must be loosened for the axle to move. Once the nut is loose, loosen the adjuster lock-nuts and adjsut the chain accordingly.

The alignment marks can be trusted. The actual tolerances are within the threads of the adjusters.

Assembly is the reverse.
