Motorcycle Repair: HELP HELP!!! 1980 yamaha 650 special, yamaha 650, seal replacement

i recently purchased a 1980 Yamaha 650 special, it had 2 problems one was a oil leak which was the seal around the push rod, which i found out is pretty common with these bikes. 2ND problem kind of stumped me(i will try to explain it my best) and that's why I'm asking you. when i put the bike in first gear let out the clutch and start moving once i get to about 5 mph it feels like a automatic trans shifts into second, but if i let the bike slow all the way down till it almost stalls out and i accelerate i wont do it. this leads me to believe it is a clutch related problem. does this make any sence to you? any help is much appreciated thanks brian klein

Hi Brian,

The problem may be clutch or transmission related. The fix may be a simple adjustment.

I would need to experience the problem to understand what is happening.

Did you have the seal replaced? Was the 2nd problem present before the seal replacement?
