Motorcycle Repair: Misfiring when hot, classic fi, test rides

Question
Hi Mike,
I ride a 2004 Road King Classic FI. Recently it began bucking (misfiring) when the bike gets hot. Usually takes about 50 miles of riding. She will buck when attempting to acelerate and sometimes will at constant throttle. Then usually a small backfire. Then she gets running again.  My dealership has attempted twice to deal with this under extended warranty. Yet, they send me home with no clue.  I suspect the coil is breaking down when hotter and messing with the spark.  Plugs do not foul.  I', gonna change the plug wires and coil.
The bone heads at my dealership will not even change the coil under warranty to try a fix. They say the problem cannot be duplicated. Yet their test rides are aprox. four to eight miles.  She won't miss when still cool.  Do you think I'm on track here?

Answer
I would start by going ot a different dealership. They appear to not want to fix your problem.
Instead of just replacing hte coil, you can remove it and heat it up in a oven to about 200 degrees, then put it back on. Ihis will tell you if the coil is breaking down when its hot.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
