Motorcycle Repair: Front Fork Fluid, automatic transmission fluid, goldwing interstate

Question
I have a 1986 GoldWing Interstate. The shop manual calls for ATF fluid in the front forks. It doesn't say what type. the forks also run with 6 pounds air pressure. What should I use for fluid when replacing the seals? Thank you for your assistance. Rich McElroy (macpac47@yahoo.com)u4ifl

Answer
Hi Rich,

Get a couple quarts of automatic transmission fluid (ATF) fluid at the local car parts store. Use GM or Ford type, it doesn't matter.

Use a syringe type air pump designed for motorcycle forks or a bicycle tire pump to inflate the forks. Don't use an air compressor unless you can regulate the pressure to a couple of pounds.
