Motorcycle Repair: 1993 Yamahafj1200 / valve niose, rear sprocket, internal gears

Question
I have both manuals and niether discusses the problem or any symptom similar to it, the ticking was there from day one, could it start "getting sticky" as it left the factory? I could see a wear issue if it began over time but it has been there and constant from the start? And no one will touch the issue of the snapping noise from the rear, I have dye checked the rear sprocket and found no cracks, I've been told such far out things from dealers as " it's an elongated engine mount that cantsback with severe tourque to allow the chain to jump over the teeth of the sprcket to release the strain from the internal gears, this shifts the wear to a non warranty item ie. the sprocket as opposed the internal gears or clutch" ever heard a story such as that from a factory trained Yamaha tech? any ideas?

Collin I am the original owner of a 9000 mile fj1200 after purchase and having mostly riding v 4's I questioned the dealer about the excessive ticking from the valve area I was told it was normal for an in line, and should disapate with time and breakin. the tiking is not there when you first start the engine and in fact can be ridden without the niose in cooler climates in most cases without it or until you shut it off and restart then it starts. On warmer days it will gradualy strart to tick with time. It seems to be only one valve that ticks the rest seem ok. It is time to do some maintanance namely a front shock rebuild for leaky seems the dealer wants over four hundred to check and adjust lifters. Is this a common problem or is this something that these engines do and is normal? the niose isn't terribly loud just annoying and as stated earlier has never gotten any worse than the first day? Also do you know of any reason the the rear end should snap or crack when there is enough tourqe to lift the front wheel or at the piont right before the reaer is about to break loose under hard acceleration, I was told by the same dealer it was a saftey feature Yamaha designed to save the 2nd and third gears to release pressure on them( still sounds like a bullshit story to this day but can't get any verification from Yamaha? Any knowledge about eiher issue would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, your valve issue isn't normal.  It's either getting sticky or is totally out of adjustment.  As for the rear end cracking I would have 2 agree with your instinct.  It's a bullshit story.  By a "Haynes" or "Clymer" manual to solve your issues.

Answer
I can't see Yamaha installing such an engine mount back in 1993.  I think your dealers are stoned...But, it's possible all the same.  However, such a mount wouldn't make noise unless it had gone bad.  I just can't help anymore with this issue without the machine present.  As for the ticking...It almost has to be a bad valve.  Is the noise in the center, on one side, etc.?
