Motorcycle Repair: RPMs?, honda cbr 600, excessive fuel

Question
Hello and thank you for your time!

I recently bought my first bike, it is a
1998 Honda CBR 600 F3.  It is used, and I did not get an owners manual with it. I was just wondering, I am having no problems with it, but I just do not know what RPM ranges I should keep it in. I keep it around 5-7thousand, but I think i am putting it in too high of a gear for the speed (45-70mph).  I don't want to risk damaging the engine, and being my first bike i don't know what bikes 'like'   I can already tell they run higher rpms than cars!   Thank you very much for your time!

Answer
Hi Steve,

Try and keep engine speed (RPM) in a range that keeps power on hand, but not such that the engine is always revving high.

You'll want to have acceleration available for an emergency evasion manuever, etc...

You do not want engine speed to be low to the point of "lugging" the engine.

Running too high engine speed will use excessive fuel.
