Motorcycle Repair: 1990 kawasaki kdx 200, kawasaki kdx 200, kdx200

Question
1990 kdx 200--first of all i have no manual for this bike but am going to have to rebuild the top end, what is the coating on the cylinder? Can it be bored out?Can it be resleeved? Also i need to replace all of the kips power valve parts they are trashed!Do these parts have to be timed in some way when putting back together?Or would it be cheaper to buy a new cylinder and the kips power valve parts?Besides that the rest of the bike is there! and ready to go,Also what is the difference between a KDX200 and a KDX200 e? not sure which one i have.    Thanks Bryan
P.S. I WANT TO RIDE IT NOW!

Answer
If the cylinder looks ok, i.e. no deep scratches etc, I would just have it measured to see if it is in spec, if it is, just put a new piston and rings and be sure to have it honed first.  If it is out of spec, you will need to bore it and replate the nikasil coating.  You should not need to resleeve if you are going for a simple rebore.

On the kips, I'm not that familiar with them but I do know they are very difficult to work with, the valves need to be perfectly aligned in tune with the piston.  I suggest getting a service manual, such as clymers, or having a dealer do it.  I did find this link for you which explains the process.

The e, is the year designation for electric start.

Hope this helps.
