Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki Bandit carb(?) problems., suzuki bandit, float bowls

Question
Hi Collin,
My 1991 Suzuki Bandit GSF400 was having fuel delivery problems and upon investigation I found a very dirty fuel filter. After changing the fuel filter however, the bike refused to start up. When I hooked the battery up to a battery charger and ran the electric starter, the bike finally came to life, but died shortly after. Now I cannot get it to start even with the electric starter running for a long time. I checked the carb float bowls and there is fuel there, so fuel gets to the carbs all right. I tried spraying carb cleaner into the carbs while starting it up, which worked and got the bike to run until it ran out of carb cleaner to burn. So somewhere inside the carbs fuel is not getting mixed in the air. What should I try?

Answer
First of all NEVER run the starter for more than 5 seconds at a time.  Now, to me it sounds like your dirty fuel filter caused a clogging of the jets.  Fuel in the bowls ONLY means u no longer have a problem from the tank to the carbs.  The bowls r only the beginning of the fuel 2 air mixing.  Your jets can b found in the bowl areas and need 2 be removed and cleaned thoroughly with carb cleaner only!  DO NOT insert ANYTHING into the jet holes as this may cause increased jet size.
