Motorcycle Repair: speedo whine, speedometer cable, xj750

Question
hi mark,
the speedo on my '82 xj750 has been developing
a whine which used to only happen below 45 degrees (it begins and stops at approx. 30 mph). it has gotten progressivly worse over the past year, and now can happen at temps as warm as 70 degrees. since these are apparently discontinued, how can i fix this? please do not ask me to live with this as occasionly it can be so loud that groups of people will point and stare (i hate that!)
thanks,
mike

Answer
Hi Michael,

Remove the speedometer cable. Inspect the cable for defects. If undamaged, lube the cable with a light oil and reinstall. If damaged try and find a replacement cable.
