Motorcycle Repair: 2K Sporty not shifting, cluch, warrenty

Question
When I up shift most of the time I will be in neutral instead of at least one of the gears.  It can be any gear but 5th.  Sometimes when down shifting the shifter seems very stiff and won't do the shift unless I jiggle it up and down or let the clutch out a little especially if I'm going to slow for the next gear down.  If I shift down 1 gear at a time and release the cluch in each gear it nearly always goes into each gear fine.  It has made a clacking sound when coasting with the clutch pulled especially if I staret to release it to maintain a very slow speed.  The dealer told me it's not normal but they couldn't find any reason for it.  The dealer has been prettymuch usless except for overcharging for roteen maintainance which I now do myself.  I've worked on my own cars, trucks, boats and bikes all my life so can you tell me what to look for and is this a job I can do myself.  I already managed the mispositioned rocker box gasket problem after Harley refused to service it because it was 1 month out of warrenty and the dealer had botched the job on the rear cylinder several months eariler.  Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks Much

Answer
there can be several reasons for your problem. Unless you have worked on a harley trans I would attempt it yourself.
Some of the reasons cound be a bearing going out, bent shifter fork, damaged shifter fork bushing, grear spacing or a worn shifter plate.
The trans will ahve to be pulled to have these things checked
Good luck and happy riding
