Motorcycle Repair: 1983 sportster fouling plugs, harley dealership, screaming eagles

Question
I had already put new plug wires on before the fouling problem. How do you test the coil? And how can you tell if this bike has points or is electronic ignition?
Thanks again for your advice..

Question -
I have a 1983 iron head sportster with a s&s carb. It is fouling the plugs. The harley dealership here wont work on anything this old.I had put it in another shop they charged me hundreds of dollars. Said the worked on the carb. It did the exact same thing before I got home.It Usualy happens when i'm stopped at a red light. When I try to take off it wont take gas...back firing..I have to change the plugs. I just bought some hotter plugs to replace the 4r5 plugs I normaly use (screaming eagles) but I just road it to get it home. I carry extra plugs, but i'm afraid to go on a long ride. Also I'm no mechanic...
Thanks for your time...

Answer -
First thing you need to to is test your coil and plug wires. If they go bad that will cause fouling plugs
Good luck and happy riding

Answer
You will need an OHM meter. remove the coil and at the primary side (where the 12 volt wires attach) test. You should get a reading of around 3 OHMS. Now do the same thing where the plug wires go. You should get a reading of around 20,000 OHMS. If not hen you have a bad coil
Good luck and happy riding
