Motorcycle Repair: 2005 CBR600 IDLE, cbr 600rr, vacuum leaks

Question
Hi Mark,
I have a 2005 CBR 600RR.  When the engine is cold, the idle starts out low at about 1000-1100 rmp and slowly goes up to 1300rpm when hot.  Isn't the RPM supposed to be higher when the bike is cold?  Also, the RMP does not seem to be steady when it's cold.

Thanks,

Hoa Tran

Answer
Hi Hoa,

Engine idle is higher when engine is cold and the choke is used.

Try adjusting engine speed down to proper RPM when engine is at operating termperatures. If problem persists, inspect vacuum leaks, throttle body synchronization, and other causes.
