Motorcycle Repair: stumped, spark plug wire, timing suggestions

Question
I have a 1975 FXE.I have a starting problem, the motor turns over but never lights off. I have points ignition (stock) also a stock carb (Bendix)
I have replaced the points & Condensor also I have rebuilt the carb. I have followed all the manual directions -- set the points at .018 removed the front intake valve push rod cover rolled it around with the kick start until the front intake valve closes -- then bumped it until the proper flywheel mark is in the view window. used a test light across the points to set it to "just" light when the points start to open -- this is suppose to be a working point to start the bike so it can be timed properly -- accept that it just won't start -- I have done this same procedure over and over with 3 different sets of points & condensors -- just in case I had a bad one (or the other) it just refuses to start -- I have replaced the spark plugs and verified that there is a definite Blue(GOOD) spark when you manually open the points -- the carb is working properly -- the bike was running once for about 1 to 2 minutes -- so I thought oh good lets hook up the timing light and get it smoothed out -- It has not started since -- I have tried starting fluid and several various timing suggestions from friends -- NOTHING WORKS __ PLEASE HELP

Answer
It sounds like you are right on the points. Did you check your lifters and adjust them? If they are to tight its very hard to get a shovel started or it wont start.
Also, remove the plugs and attach a plug to the spark plug wire. Have somebody turn the bike over. Hold the plug to the head. Are you getting spark?
Check your carb to make sure you are getting fuel. Hold your hand over the carb throat and turn the bike over. Is it sucking fuel out the carb?
Let me know
