Motorcycle Repair: Backfires, honda goldwing aspencade, wingthings texas

Question
I have a 1987 Honda Goldwing Aspencade and it will run great for 5 miles and then loses power and backfires and quits running. Sometimes it will fire right up again, other times it takes a few tries but once it is running again it will keep going for many miles. What is going on with this bike?

Answer
Hi Steve,

A number of conditions may cause the problems you're experiencing. I recommend having a local Honda tech inspect the problem for you.

I suspect a charging system problem. It may be something as simple as a loose battery connection. There's many things to be checked to determine the cause(s).

Respectfully,
Mark Shively
