Motorcycle Repair: Evo Starter Extraction, starter clutch, sportster

Question
I have a 1986 Sportster.  I need to get the starter out to change the starter clutch.  I'm not sure how to proceed, I mean, do I have to take off the primary cover and all that? or is there an easier way?  If I do take off the primary cover to get access to the mounting bolts for the starter will I need to get a gasket for the Primary.  If you have any hints or advice I would appreciate it.

Thank You,

Answer
ah yes, my beloved 1986 sportster1
you do need to take off the primary cover and you should alweays use a new gasket . you'll find its easier to folllow along with the book and take off what needs tio be taken off than to try to fight it and take short cuts. be sure to looosen the primary chain tensioneer bolt and the clutch adjuster . you might need to take off the rear ehaust then remove the wires before you pull it out.
while youre in there you might as well do a good complete checkup of the whole unit and go through all the components and check for any thing else going on
how sure are youy that the starter clutch is bad?
