Motorcycle Repair: Passing Lamps, low beams, heritage springer

Question
I have a ’97 Heritage Springer. My passing lights stopped working. I’ve checked with a volt meter and have 12vdc at the switch and have 10vdc at the batter wire to the lamps to ground. When I attach the lamp the battery is gone. I’ve pulled both passing lamps and the head lamp (head lamp works fine Hi and Low beam) and tested with each passing lamp independently with the same results. When I “toggle” the Hi and Low beams the battery will go off on HI and return on Low like it should. I have a maintenance manual and have followed the wiring as shown. I have no other electrical problems and all other lamps – turn signal work fine.

Stumped!

Answer
Your lossing me when you say the battery will go off. Do you mean you dont have any power?
If you have power to the switch, do you have power going away from the switch to the light? Do you have power at the light? Also, if you have 12 volts at the battery then you should have 12 volts at the light, not 10 volts
Let me know
