Hi, thanks for answering questions... I have a '73 honda cb350
that I recently replaced the clutch cable on... now after re-
adjustment their is pressure as you squeeze the lever till about a
3/4 of the way throught then a 'pop' and the lever loses all
tension and I have to re-adjust... what the? I pulled the rod
and all seems straight. Would appreciate any ideas.

Answer
Kevin, the clutch release setup can be tricky on these old bikes. Check the end of the clutch pushrod for excessive dimpling and replace if necessary. Be sure that the ball bearing didn't fall out of the clutch lifter piece. Loosen the clutch cable adjusters all the way. Loosen the adjuster nut/screw on the side case and turn it counter clockwise (I think... am at work and my 350 info is home), to where it just gets snug, then reverse direction for about 1/8turn. Then try the bottom cable adjuster and then the the handlebar adjuster.

If this fails, you may have excessive wear on the 3 ball release/track parts inside. Be sure that it is all well lubricated. If you have to remove the cover again, look at the angle of the release arm with the cable. It should be at a slightly lower than 90 degree angle, so it can pull through an arc to make the release motion happen. If it is above 90 degrees you lose some leverage.
