Motorcycle Repair: My 1994 Honda Shadow, battery cables, honda shadow

Question
I went out to warm my Honda Shadow VLX up this morning and everything was fine, but when I took the key out of the ignition and unlocked everything, and then tried to start it again it turned on briefly and then all power just popped off.  No lights or anything.  I wiggled wires, I switched the 30A fuse with the spare one, and looked at the other fuses, but there was nothing, and then somehow for a brief moment it was magically on again when I re-assembled everything, but as soon as I hit the starter button, Pop, everything went out again.  Is something shorting out?  The bike has been in excellent running shape and I have never had any problems.  It only has about 5500 miles on it.

Answer
David,

it sounds like a loose connection somewhere.
-clean and tighten the battery cables and frame ground.
-check for loose connectors to the regulator etc.
-check for loose wires/connectors under the seat.
-check starter and solenoid cables/wires.
-it may have a relay that kicks in and out
due to the excess current caused by a loose
or corroded connection.
-use a good battery when testing.
-check for power on both sides of the fuses.
