Motorcycle Repair: Honda air to fuel mixture, honda service manual, shadow spirit

I have a 2001 Shadow Spirit, VT1100C. The exhaust smells rich.  I have a Honda service manual but do not see anything pertaining to adjusting this mixture adjustment. Can this be done "at home" or should I take to the shop? If "at home", where is it and any assistance offered is most appreciated Thanks.

Hi Pat.

There is a reason that the manual has nothing on setting mixture.  It is set at the factory and is not meant to be tampered with.

If the bike is running rich, then there is another problem.  perhaps the carbs need cleanng or something has broken loose in them.  Maybe they are out of synch or the air filter is badly clogged.

Check those things out and let me know the other symptoms and maybe we can sort out the real reason that the bike is running rich.
