Motorcycle Repair: Battery Dies, harley dealer, stator

Question
Recently bought a 1998 Fatboy with 1,400 miles.  Runs great when the battery is charged but even the new Harley battery is dead within a week or so.  Had a friend check the regulator and stator and he thought they were working fine.  I would like to take it to another more knowlegable friend to recheck.  What are the correct procedures for him to take so I know it was done right, and should we be looking elsewhere?
Thank you for your time, I really don't want to wait a month for an appointment with my local Harley dealer.

Answer
unplug the regulator from the stator. Check both pins on the stator with a OHM meter for ground. If grounded then the stator is bad. Start the bike and with a AC volt meter check the voltage at the stator. At 2000RPM you should be getting around 45-50 volts. If not then the stator is bad. If the stator passses all tests then the regulator is bad
Good luck and happy riding
