Motorcycle Repair: 1976 Harley FLH - Rear Brake Repair, harley flh, piston assembly

Question
I need to replace the rear brake pads on my '76 full dresser. Upon dissassemby I noted the piston assembly frozen. This is what probably caused the master cylinder to fail. I've ordered a rebuild kit, pads and a new piston. How do I get the old piston out and what needs to be done with the housing?

Thanks,
Rick

Answer
If the piston is frozen I use an aair compresser to blow it out. Sometimes you have to some vice grips to twist it so it will come out. Once you get it out clean it good as well as the cylinder it goes on. Use some fine emery cloth. If should slide in and out with your fingers.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
