Motorcycle Repair: Evo Motor, softail custom, oil mist

I have a 1987 softail custom, I would liked to know how you would go about setting the timing on the evo motor, there isn't anything in the repair manual. I also would like to know what the temperature should be after the bike is fully warmed up.

Look on the left side of the bike on the motor inbetween the cylinders. you will see a plug. remove it. Hook a timing light up. You will need another person. Start the bike and looking through the hole you are looking for a line mark on the flywheel. If you dont see it then have the other person turn the ignition slowly until you see it centered int he hole. you hav to do it fast, due to the fact that a oil mist will come out the hole. They do make a clear plug for the hole.
