Motorcycle Repair: Oil, screw hole, oil loss

Question
Upon Inspection of Air Filter found small amount of fresh oil accumulated in cover and some that appeared to be dripping from bottom of attachment screw hole. After cleaning up overflow started and ran motor with no indication of loss of oil pressure. Is this indicative of problem? Bike is 1100 Classic with 15304 milege.   Thank you,  Al

Answer
Hi Al.

Is the air filter dirty?  If it is, then replace it.  A dirty air filter can cause an imbalance of the pressure in the crankcase and cause oil to be sucked into the airbox.

There will be a small amount of oil loss, so monitor your oil pressure and take note of where it sits on a regular basis.  If there is no change in oil quantity or pressure over the next few weeks, then you have no issue.

Good luck and ride safe.
