Motorcycle Repair: Fuel problems?, fuel pump relay, fuel problems

Question
I have a 1986 GL1200 Goldwing.  For the past week, I take off for work and get about 2 miles and my bike starts acting like it's out of gas and slowly dies or seems like it just isn't getting the gas it needs.  I keep gas in it and have put a new fuel filter on (a clear glass one so I can see the fuel).  It seems to get worse every day.  I have parked it and will change the plugs and want to get a fuel pump but I don't know if the pump could be a problem.
When it dies, I can see fuel in the filter but while trying to start it, it looks like the fuel just isn't moving, almost like the fuel pump isn't pulling the fuel.  Possible fuel pump?
I have owned this bike about 2.5 years and have NO problems at all.

Answer
Hi Mike.

It could be the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay.  Start by checking the relay, then the pump.  Either one failing could cause this problem.

There are test proceedures and specs for both of those in your repair manual, so refer to that for specifics.

Let me know what you find.
Good luck and ride safe.
