Motorcycle Repair: baffels, tail pipes, stock pipe

i have talked to people who have removed the baffels on their tail pipes why would you do this and does it cause the bike to run lean I have a 1982 honda sbre 750 v45

Hi Adam,

Removing the baffles from the exhaust pipe (mufflers) is not recommended as a performance modification.

The stock pipe is not designed to produce power without the baffles. The stock pipe is not designed to produce race performance with the baffles, either.

You'll likely increase exhaust noise and detune performance by removing the baffles.

In many states, altering the exhaust to produce excessive noise is unlawful. Excessive meaning, louder than stock noise levels.

Instead, install an aftermarket performance pipe that's designed to increase performance. The carburetors and air filter will require modifications, too.
