Motorcycle Repair: Replacing Headgasket RM125 1982, head gasket, suzuki rm125

Question
Hi Mark,
I was wondering if you could pass on to me instructions on how to replace a headgasket on a Suzuki RM125 1982 model. I found water in the gearbox and it has been suggested that it may be the headgasket needs to be replaced. Much appreciated.

Answer
Hi Greg,

Sorry, but I don't have the service manual for this model, either.

My advice is confirm the source of the problem and then make repairs.

If the head gasket is defective, wouldn't there be a loss of compression? And, if the gear box filler cap was loose or the o'ring defective, couldn't water get into the oil?

The answer to both questions is "yes."

Pressure test the cooling system. Check cylinder compression. A blown gasket or cracked cylinder wall will be revealed.

Respectfully,
