Motorcycle Repair: 1974 Suzuki T500 two stroke, bill silver, pushrod

Question
Hi Bill,
Just purchased the above bike. Oil is leaking from the oil seal push rod (I have ordered a new one). Seems like the seal comes out of the socket from using the clutch. The seal looks good, should it be glued in place so it doesn't go in and out of the socket while using the clutch? Also, do you know anyone who repairs this kind of bike in the Los Angeles area?
Thank you

Answer
Patrice, check in with the VJMC site www.vjmc.org for possible leads in SoCal repair specialists. Not my regular brand, so am a bit out of the loop on your machine.

Pushrod seals, at least on a Honda have to stay in place in order to work. Yours may have hardened and just needs a new one pressed in, usually w/o sealer/glues. The proper seal should stay in place without special treatment, unless the pushrod shaft has a notch worn in it, which could catch the edge of the seal lip and keep trying to move it back and forth...
