Motorcycle Repair: suzuki, suzuki vz800 marauder, starter motor

Question
i have a 97 suzuki vz800 marauder. when i try to start it it sounds like it is trying to turn over but at a much slower rate. i have replaced the solenoid and the battery is brand new and fully charged. what could it be?

Answer
Hi Bobby.

There is the possibility that the contacts in the starter motor could be dirty in spots and need cleaning.  That can be done with a bit of thousand grit sandcloth and some contact cleaner.

Also check the connections for the starter motor circuit.

Try that and see what happens.
Good luck and ride safe.
