Motorcycle Repair: FUEL FLOW, cv carb, petcock

Question
HI MIKE. I'M CUTOMIZING A 2002 XL 1200 C WITH A CV CARB. I'M ABOUT TO
INSTALL A PETCOCK ON MY TANK THAT IS NOT VACUUM OPERATED. IS THE
VACUUM SYSTEM REALLY NESESSARY, AND IF NOT, WHAT'S THE BENIFIT TO
HAVING IT?  I'M OLD SCHOOL  AND THINK OF IT AS JUST SOMETHING ELSE TO
GO WRONG.   THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT...THOM

Answer
You do not need the vacuum operated petcock. Make sure you plug the vacuum line off though or the bike will not run properly.
These were installed do to the fact that people didnt turn off the petcock when the bike was not running. If the carb leaked you would get fuel all over and have the possibility of a fire. It is just a safty thing
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
