Chrysler Repair: 2003 Intrepid ongoing engine code P0456, code remediation, leak detection system

Question
Since the day I have owned this car (brand new) Dealers have changed almost everything possible to this. Maf, Map, o2's, cam and crank sensors etc...and after my 5 year is now up all was great for several months with no engine light again the issue arises...???? I rarely use this car. It sat pretty much most of last winter as I would start it and take the rare jog with it. Now that I try and use it (after the warranty fact) to work once a week to keep the car motivated...can not find the issues? I did have a complete FPIK unit (from throttle body on) K&N system on it for years...till I found out that it could have been possible that the oils could bog up sensors? I always let the oils dry fully before putting the K&N filter back on...but...whom knows...I guess a smoke test is needed...but this seems to be a issue on these cars as I can tell so far. I can NOT find the evap canister (unless above the gas tank...ye ha...not looking forward to that one. But if anything wherelse could it be...Thanks for any help on this several year issue that the dealer could never correct WHILE under warranty for 5 years of it...Later,
Sean

Answer
Hi Sean,
This specific code is about the evaporative emission control system having a small leak. As such the manuals I have suggest that you need to inspect the system's hoses to try and find it. It appears that the cannister and associated leak detection system is at the fuel tank and that you need to drop the tank down in order to inspect it. I have the '04 manual and would be able to xerox copy and postal mail you the pages that show how to do that, and also a couple of pages that discuss the 0456 code remediation from the powertrain control manual for the '04 model. If you would be willing to send me three 42-cent stamps to cover my costs I will send the pages as soon as you give me a postal mailing address and then you can reimburse me after you get them.
