Motorcycle Repair: CT90 sloppy throttle / carb, honda ct90, slide guides

Question
My 69 Honda CT90 was very hard to twist the throttle back and prior to that it would stick open, which was fun. I opened up the throttle housing at the grip and the cables connect at the top of the carb...to see if I could freshen up the throttle action, clean, etc. and now there is no resistance or throttle snap. It actuates and moves up and down but is not controling the full delivery as it should. I lined up the neddle, and slide guides, but there is no "spring" action to speak of. Maybe the old cable is stretched?!

A:  ...or broken, or improperly routed.

Try over-lubricating the cables with a light spray lube. Inspect the draining fluid for evidence of heavy rust.

With cables that old, it may be best to replace them.
