Motorcycle Repair: No neutral indicator, zx9r, indicator light

Question
Chris;

I'm riding a 94 Kawi ZX9R in excellent condition always stored indoors. The problem I'm having of late is that to start the bike there is a saftey in which the bike must be in neutral and the "neutral indicator light" must be on. This light is in consistent in comming on or just going out while the bike is infact in neutral. I have checked the manual and trouble shoot sites with no luck do you have any advise.
The last time I was out I tried push starting the bike, this did cause the indicator light to light up once I shifted the unstarted bike back into neutral and then started like new.

Thanks, Phil

Answer
Hi Phil.

This sounds like one of two issues.

1) The neutral switch is loose.

2) There is a short in that circuit.

Check those and see what happens.  Refer to the repair manual for access to the internal engine neutral switch.

Good luck and ride safe.
