Motorcycle Repair: bogging bike, honda shadow 1100, vacuum line

Question
Hi Falcon,
I have a stock 99 honda shadow 1100 aero, never been dropped and I ride 60 miles five days a week. when I'm taking off from a stop or accelerating on the freeway my bike gets little to no fuel, unless I roll on the throttle very slow.
I've changed my fuel filter and air filter, plugs and fuel relay.
I have tried riding with the fuel tank open and I have the same problems. Please help.

Thank you
Paul V

Answer
Hi Paul.

You are learning the same thing that I learned a long time ago; Work the problem before you start changing parts.

You could have a few things wrong.  If the bike sits in seasonal storage at all, then the carbs could need a proper cleaning.  Start by trying some fuel treatment (STP made with jet fuel works best).

You could need the valve gap and timing done.  Also check the carb synchro.  If it is off, then that could be a problem as well.

Check the vacuum line to the fuel valve as well.  Make sure that the line is not leaking air.

Don't ride with the fuel cap open.

Start with that and let me know what you find.
Good luck and ride safe.
