Motorcycle Repair: Hard time get the back tire out, rear fender, 2x8

Question
Hi Falcon. I was wondering if you can please tell me how to take the back tired out of my 1983 virago yahama. I took all the bolt out but it seems that there is not enough space  to pull the tire out can you explain to me why. I really appreciate your time. Thank you very much

Answer
Hi Anto.

There should be no reason that the rear wheel should be able to be removed.
How closely did you follow the instructions in the repair manual?

Have you removed the rear brake assembly and the attachment for the lockdown rod that holds the brake in place?
That is the only thing that I can think of that may cause a problem with the removal of the wheel.

Or is the problem that the rear fender is in the way?
More often than not, you need to set the bike up in a location that has a drop-off under the rear of the bike.
A bikelift or similar platform is the ideal thing.

The next best thing is to place a short section (about 12" long) of 2x4 or 2x8 under the pads of the centerstand and get the bike on the centerstand on the board section.
That will raise the rear of the bike up at least 3" and will give room to remove the wheel without any real problems.

Good luck and ride safe.
