Towing Issues: how much time does a towing company have to notify people?, section 29a, us post office

Question
Hi, my car was towed in Cambridge, MA on Friday, May 9. I received the notification on Saturday, May 17; it was sent on May 16 and gave me an update of the fees as of May 15. I thought that towing companies have to notify owners within three days of towing. Is that not correct? Were they within their rights to wait until Thursday, May 16, to send me a notice? Thank you for any assistance."

Answer
Well lets see, they towed it on a Friday, and you are saying you got the letter one week later on Saturday..

First of all the information the tow company gets comes from the state DMV office in 99 % of all cases...

Now the DMV is not open on the weekends... And in most cases the 3 days, is BUSINESS DAYS not calendar days..
Add in the fact that the letters are sent by the US POST OFFICE who we know can take several days to get a letter across town at times.

Now, I also find references where the police department is also the one who does the notifications in Massachusetts  and if that is the case then they might take a few days to do them also... But in most cases the weekend while it counts on the storage part, is not covered in the time frame for notifications.
