Motorcycle Repair: 84 Magna V65 Wiring, magna v65, honda magna

Question
Hi Falcon,

I too have an '84 Honda Magna V65.  It was stored for a couple of years after the birth of my child, but I have the bug again and decided to put it back on the road.  I just paid almost $750 for a bike shop to go through the bike - all new plugs, tires, batterie, carb cleaning, etc.  But, my horn is intermittent.  When you press the button, nothing. But if you heep holding it in, the horn will start to beep intermittently, like there is a loose connection or something. I had this problem before the bike was stored, and replaced both horns, but the problem was not fixed.  The bike shop did not want to look at the wiring on such an old bike.  Is this something a novice can tackle?

Also, any recommended product to bring back the lustre on the original maroon tank & paint?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Kevin.

You may want to check the contacts at the button as well as all of the connections in that circuit.  It will require that the horn switch be disassembled to check and clean the contacts.  There could be a short in the wiring as well.  Check all of these things with a multimeter.

You should be able to handle it.  It isn't really a difficult task.  Just time-consuming.

Good luck and ride safe.
