Motorcycle Repair: 1975 Honda 360T Ignition points arcing, honda 360t, point gap

Question
Hi Chris:
I have installed a new set of points in my 1975 Honda 360. The bike starts fine and runs good, but the right side set of points are arcing. Do I have the point gap set incorrectly? The set that I replaced was doing the same thing. any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks, Ralph  rljones@columbus.rr.com

Answer
Hi Ralph.

When you say they are arcing, how do you mean?  There should be a small repeating arc between the contacts as each point opens and closes.

Did you set the gap the same for both sides as per the repair manual?  If not, then that could be the issue.  One is set wrong, and believe it or not, the one that isn't giving you that nice spark is probably the one.

Let me know.
Good luck and ride safe.
