Mazda Repair: Mazda Protege Speed, mazdaspeed protege, mazda protege speed

Question
I have a 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege Turbo. The problem is that the battery won't hold a charge. About 6 months ago it just stopped and we tested the alternator and it was fine. We cleaned the post and reconnected and it worked. Then later the same problem, we changed the terminal end on the cable, fixed. now the battery won't hold a charge for more than a day. My husband thinks it's the cable, it's corroded or something. But I.m not sure. I don't want to throw money at it and it be wrong. Any suggestions?

Answer
Not my specific are of expertise but,

Remove the battery from the car, charge it overnight.  Then let it sit over the next day or night to see if it maintains on it's own.  If it doesn't you have a dead cell or an internal short in the battery which means, new battery time.

If it maintains, reinstall it and let the car sit.  Be sure everything is off.  If it drains again.  Suspect anything after market you added to the car.  Alarm, radio, amplifier, road lights, etc.  These cars are well built, you will not see a wire harness short without some type of add or trauma causing it.
