Motorcycle Repair: about 1980 Honda CM400E, honda cm400e, needel

Question
Wazzup Falcon. Dude, What do you do if your bike keeps on overflowing?  There's this part on Carb that is just a bit bigger than a needel with two holes in it that keeps on spitting out gas and also the drainer.  I was trying to clean out the fuel system and i blew thru the petcock hose into the Carb with the drainage open trying to clean those rust inside. Now, everytime when i turn the petcock to On, in couple of seconds it starts spitting out gas nonstop. Please help me Dude.  My first bike and im seeking help. Let me know if what i did was wrong.  Email me.
Thanks!
Brant.

Answer
Hi Brant.

Well, you have a good bike to learn on.  It doesn't sound as if you did anything really wrong, but it is a 26 year old bike and there are not a lot of parts available for them anymore.

It sounds more like you have a couple of issues here that are fairly simply remedied.

1) You have a problem with the fuel petcock.  This is fixed by getting a rebuild kit for the petcock or replacing it with a new one.

2) You have worn seals in the float bowls, the floats need adjustment or the floats are bad.
If you do not have the repair manual for the bike, then get it.  It should have the proceedures for testing and adjustment of the floats.

Let me know what happens.
Good luck and ride safe.
