Motorcycle Repair: pushrod seals install, rod seals, pushrod

Question
I need to replace the push rod seals on a 1977 AMF sportster 1000cc how can I do this, and are there any spec. tools needed. and are the rubber
seals better then the cork ones.

                        thank you,

Answer
In order the replace the seals you have to remove the pushrods.
Remove the clips on the covers. Loosen the locknut on the pushrod and turn the adjuster on the pushrod to make it shorter. remove the pushrod. You will have to rotoate the motor so that the pushrod is in the down position to get them out. Replace the seals. The rubber ones usually last longer.
Reinstall the pushrods. To set them, make sure the lifter is all the way in the down position. Tighten the pushrod just until you can turn it between your fingers. Tighten the locknut and put the clip in the pushrod cover.
Good luck and happy riding
