Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki 600 Bandit electrical problem, suzuki 600 bandit, schmatics

Question
Chris,

I have a 2000 Suzuki 600 bandit with an intermittent starter(ing) problem.  Even though the kill switch is in the right position and the clutch is fully pulled, the bike will not turn over when the START button is pushed.  I was leaning toward a faulty kill switch because my son uses this to turn off the bike instead of the key.  However, the switch seems to functioning correctly when I put a meter across it.  I'm really looking for downloadable copy of the electrical schmatics for this bike.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

Ed

Answer
Hi Ed.

Kill switches normally do not go bad.  My '84 Magna still has the original kill switch and it works without issue. The problem is definitely elsewhere.
Have you tested the wiring for the kill switch?  How about the starter circuit?  There could be a short in there as well.
Have you checked the sidestand cutoff switch? Those often go bad and give similar symptoms.  Test that and see what happens.
Also check the switch at the clutch, which is part of that circuit.  Those switches can be either replaced or bypassed if they are the culprits.

Your best bet for getting a copy of the schematics is to just order a repair manual.  A factory one is best, but a Clymer's is almost as good (Clymer's doesn't have power and voltage curves and ubber detail things like that).

Let me know what you find.
Good luck and ride safe.
