Motorcycle Repair: Brake Light, honda cb 550, brake light switch

Hi
This is a general question.The other gentlemen are maxed out that deal with Honda.I have a 1977 Honda cb 550 Supersport.My brake light does not work.The running tail light does however.I have checked the bulb it works and connections to the best of my ability. How do I check the light switch? Or tail light? Is there anything else I should check? Hope you can help me as this is a daily rider.

Use a test light to see if you have power going to the light when you press the brake. If not then locate the brake light switch. It should be somewhere in the brake line. It probaby has two wires going ot it. One should always be hot with the key switch on. The other one should be hot when you depress the lever. If the one is not alway hot then you have a short in the wiring and you will have to trace it out.
