Motorcycle Repair: 1980 Honda XL250S Rocker arms, screw the screw, honda xl250s

Question
The rocker arms for the intake valves on my 1980 honda xl250s have broken and im trying to replace them.  But I cannot seem to get the old ones off, The rocker arms are held on by a big screw that goes through it, but the screw will not loosen so i can get them off, There is a pin sticking out that would appear to hold the screw inplace so it doesnt vibrate loose but this pin will not move what-so-ever.  I dont want to apply a lot of force without knowing that is what i need to remove so as not to break anything more.. So in short if you could tell me the steps to the rocker arm removal that would be very helpful. Thanks

Answer
Hi Josh.

If you have a cotter pin or other type of pin-lock going through a screw that you want to remove, then pull the pin and, barring a badly rusted screw, the screw will come out.

Unfortunately, I do not have disassembly/reassembly proceedures or specs on your bike.  You should have a repair manual and refer to it as often as needed.  If you do not have a repair manual, get one.  You will find it to be worth it's weight in gold.

Good luck and ride safe.
